The club offers several different avenues for meeting, carving, demonstrating, and attending local events. Learn how to carve with knives and gouges, power carve, pyrography, and other woodcarving techniques from some of our top woodcarvers and pyrographers in the club. Note: Safety gloves and thumb guards are required to participate in club workshops.Interested in joining the JRWC? Open, Group, and Mentoring
Meetings are held every Thursday from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Woodcraft store for open, group carving. This weekly carving event is open to all. Carvers work on projects of their choosing and with so much talent in the room it is a good place to ask advice.
Special Workshops and Events
Working with Woodcraft, JRWC brings in nationally recognized woodcarvers to provide special programs and workshops to club members and other carvers in the area. JRWC also supports local events such as the State Fair and Field Day of the Past.Join us in these special events!
First Thursday Club Business
Meetings and Projects
Thursday Evening Meetings and Projects are starting back up in June 2016. The club business meetings and projects are held on the first Thursday of each month starting at 6:00pm, followed by a carving project. We need volunteers to lead carving projects each month. Please let us know if you have a project you would like to share with the group.Note: Safety gloves and thumb guards are required to participate in club workshops.
Inclement Weather Policy
If Henrico County schools are closed, there will be no James River Woodcarvers activities held. Thursday carving will resume the following week, weather permitting. If a Thursday night meeting is canceled, any scheduled business will be discussed at the next month's meeting and any planned projects will be rescheduled. The safety and well being of our club members comes first and those that survive bad weather live to carve another day.
